ChatGPT—or any other large language model—may work fine to botch a couple of insubstantial business emails. It could also be a great tool to do some preliminary brainstorming. But if you are to write something that conveys the breadth of your thinking and feeling, these tools simply will not do. In most academic contexts, you are required to write something distinctly personal. In order to do so, you will have to go through the process of your own critical thinking, and let your writing develop accordingly. Besides, as you may well imagine, now more than ever application committees are on the watch for essays generated by artificial intelligence.
